Half a lifetime ago, I was a lawyer, clerking for the Honorable Justice Buckley of the Illinois Appellate Court for the First District. I spent two years writing his published Opinions for the State of Illinois. It was a job which I enjoyed immensely, and when it ended, I retired from being a lawyer.
I spent the next 22 years raising my three children and having some fun. I played at parks a lot when they were young, climbed the ranks of volunteerism, most notably serving as the PTO President at their elementary school, and perfected my driving skills from all the years of being their chauffeur. I also joined book clubs, beading classes and a health club with an outdoor pool open for 9 months out of the year in Chicago! That’s no small feat and it’s my favorite place in the world.
Time flew by, and as my children grew, needing less of my time, I thought about returning to the writing that brought me so much fulfillment. Not wanting to return to legal writing, however, I’ve decided to try my hand at freelance writing on topics that are near and dear to my heart: travel, family, relationships, and finding joy in my 50’s. I feel that I may have something of value to share with other women (or men) my age. And if not, hopefully you find my musings entertaining!
